How to Choose the Right Personal Trainer

Hiring a personal trainer isn't a situation that should be taken lightly. They're not cheap, and if your trainer doesn't know what's up, your time with them can potentially lead to injury. Ideally, you want to find a knowledgeable and committed trainer who can help you reach your goals. Here's what to look for when in the market for a trainer.
Accreditation and Education
Since there are a lot of shoddy personal trainer certification programs, make sure to look at any prospective trainer's credentials. First, find a trainer who has completed a personal training certification program from a NCAA-accredited organization: the American College of Sports Medicine, National Strength and Conditioning Association, American Council on Exercise, and National Academy of Sports Medicine are all respected within the industry. But don't stop at personal training certification; ask if they have any supplemental education in their field. If possible, find a trainer with a degree in an exercise science or physical education program. It's more than OK to ask to see their résumé.
Personality and Professionalism
Before getting yourself locked into a contract, notice what kind of professional mannerisms a trainer has. First and foremost, make sure that they listen to you carefully — the last thing you want is a trainer who doesn't care about your needs. Since every client is different, a good trainer will set up a program tailored to the individual needs of each client. Honesty and passion also go a long way in a good trainer. You want someone who can set up realistic goals with you and also be candid about how you are doing. Ultimately, the relationship you have with your trainer is a professional one, but finding someone that you mesh well with can be the difference between being able to do 10 push-ups or 20.

Weight loss adds up to a big win Weight Watchers' donations fight hunger as pounds melt

The plan with any Weight Watchers diet is to lose extra pounds for good. But every year, the weight-loss company adds another meaning to "good" by taking the number of pounds lost by members and transferring it to pounds of food donated to the hungry.

Weight Watchers kicked off its fourth annual national "Lose for Good" campaign Aug. 28 and it runs through Oct. 15. As members and online subscribers shed pounds, Weight Watchers will donate up to $1 million to Share Our Strength and Action Against Hunger. Share Our Strength works to end childhood hunger in the U.S. Action Against Hunger battles hunger and malnutrition around the globe.

Through the campaign, Weight Watchers weightloss locations are collecting food donations for area food banks, including the Connecticut Food Bank. Since the campaign's inception, Weight Watchers has donated $3 million to its charitable partners and has collected nearly 5 million pounds of food for local food banks.

Exercise could ease Arthritis even without Weight Loss

(Ivanhoe Newswire) – Adding another perk to the list of why exercising is beneficial, scientists found that physical activity improves arthritis symptoms even when remaining on a high-fat diet.

The insight suggests that excess weight alone isn't what causes the aches and pains of osteoarthritis, despite the long-held notion that carrying extra pounds strains the joints and leads to the inflammatory condition.

"What's surprising is that exercise, without substantial weight loss, can be beneficial to the joints," Farshid Guilak, Ph.D., professor of orthopaedic surgery at Duke and senior author of the study, was quoted as saying. "Ideally, it would be best to be fit and lose a little weight, but this shows that exercise alone can improve the health of your joints."

Many cases of arthritis are associated with obesity and inactivity, so the Duke researchers set out to determine whether a high fat diet induces knee osteoarthritis, and then whether exercise provides a protective effect.

Using two sets of male mice – half fed a high-fat diet and the other fed regular chow – the researchers noted significant differences among the two groups. The mice on the high-fat food gained weight rapidly, processed glucose poorly and had much higher blood levels of molecules that trigger the chronic inflammation associated with osteoarthritis.

Jogging doesn`t help lose weight

This article somehow made me think twice. What about you guys?
New Delhi: Running might not be the ideal form of exercise, especially if you want to lose weight.
Says Greg Brookes, a London-based personal trainer: "Lots of people start running to lose weight and it doesn`t always work - and this is why."

"Fat is one of our body`s favourite sources of energy," says Brookes. "The more you run, the more your body prepares itself for your next run. You will actually start to hold on to more fat," the Daily Mail quoted him as saying.

Brookes, with a clientele that includes celebrities, high-fliers and housewives, suggests why you won`t get leaner is that the body is an amazing machine and will adapt to anything.

"The more time you spend running, the better you become at running and the more efficient you get, the less energy you use and the fewer calories you burn," says Brookes.

According to him, running is also bad for joints. "When you run, two-and-a-half times your bodyweight is transmitted through your joints."

"If that force is repeated over and over, eventually your weakest joint will give out. Usually the ankles or the knees are the first to go," he adds.

Contrary to popular belief that any exercise will speed up your metabolism, running can, says Brookes, do the opposite.

Want to lose weight? Join the club

Losing weight is often a struggle, but new research has found a way to make shedding pounds half the hassle. Lesley Dobson reports
New research has shown that signing up to commercial weight loss programmes, can make a big difference to how much weight you lose, compared with just taking advice from your GP.
The study, just published in The Lancet,  was carried out by Dr Susan Jebb and a team of scientists at the UK Medical Research Council (and funded by Weight Watchers).
Primary care practices (PCTs) in Australia, Germany and the UK recruited 772 overweight or obese people; 377 were given free access to weekly Weight Watchers meetings for 12 months. The programme involves a healthy, balanced diet, increased physical activity, weigh-ins, behavioural counselling and motivation. People taking part could also go online to monitor how they were doing, join in discussions and access information, recipes etc.
The remaining 395 recruits had standard care under their national treatment guidelines and got advice on weight loss from a primary care professional at their GP’s surgery.

Is Personal Training Beneficial

The dilemma of being overweight correlates with lack of discipline and guilt. Study shows that four out of ten Americans are obese and are having a hard time controlling themselves from eating fatty and cholesterol foods. Having issues like this, personal trainer made several body workouts that can help those people eliminate their extra pounds. They even designed healthy food menus which can guide those large sized individuals to minimize their junk foods intake without compromising their favorite dishes. Definitely, no diets in here! As we all know, the hardest part of losing weight is the discipline to keep away from the temptation of sumptuous high calorie foods.

Personal trainer makes sure that every client gets what he/she deserves, a fabulous and toned body. The main objective of personal training is to keep everyone beautiful and fit just like everybody else. They are sensitive to the core need of every client to achieve their desired body proportion.

We can never deny that several ways of losing weight are being offered in the market. And to mention a few, we have diet pills, appetite suppressant beverages and even cosmetic surgeries, all promised beauty in a quicker way, then why personal trainer? The fact that exercise brings better body reaction and guarantees no side effects in the future makes it the best way to shave those fats. Maybe, you’ll ask, why enroll in that program if I can do some workouts at home? Yes, you are right that you can do that at the comfort of your place, but have ever thought that exercising without the supervision of an expert can lead to accidents? It is not just the basic routines, it is about moving the right muscle in the right position to have the right results for you.

Have you ever heard your neighbor or maybe your friend talking about losing weight but eventually failed? What do you think is the reason for that failure? It is because they lack guidance from the experts. No one informed them what to do and what not to do when exercising. And I bet they don’t keep track of their progress making the whole process dull and worthless. This can result to assumptions which are not needed, we need exact and valid number s to proceed to the next level. If you want  real and successful result, why not try hiring a trainer.
