The plan with any Weight Watchers diet is to lose extra pounds for good. But every year, the weight-loss company adds another meaning to "good" by taking the number of pounds lost by members and transferring it to pounds of food donated to the hungry.
Weight Watchers kicked off its fourth annual national "Lose for Good" campaign Aug. 28 and it runs through Oct. 15. As members and online subscribers shed pounds, Weight Watchers will donate up to $1 million to Share Our Strength and Action Against Hunger. Share Our Strength works to end childhood hunger in the U.S. Action Against Hunger battles hunger and malnutrition around the globe.
Through the campaign, Weight Watchers weightloss locations are collecting food donations for area food banks, including the Connecticut Food Bank. Since the campaign's inception, Weight Watchers has donated $3 million to its charitable partners and has collected nearly 5 million pounds of food for local food banks.
